Ben is Professor of Mechanical Engineering specialising in Engineering Design and High Value Manufacturing. Ben’s research interests span computational design, constraint modelling, generative design, design for manufacture, design informatics and design technologies including AR, VR and XR.
He has founded and led two large (100+ members) interdisciplinary Research Institutes at the Universities Bath (Innovative design and Manufacturing Research Centre) and Bristol (Engineering Systems Design Institute) respectively. He has published over 300 peer reviewed articles, received 25 best paper awards, supervised 70 researcher students/staff, and has a grant portfolio of £35M+.
Ben is a practicing Chartered Engineer working with several consultancies, start-ups and SMEs. During his career Ben has held a wide range of leadership roles at School and Faculty levels as well as Associate PVC.
